Connecting People Through Music

ALIVEmusica

The Hudson Valley region has long enjoyed a thriving arts culture. During the COVID-19 pandemic, live events around the world were canceled and arts venues closed their doors. The Howland Chamber Music Circle, however, continued to bring exceptional music to its audiences by partnering with other Hudson Valley arts presenters to co-create an online music series, ALIVEmusica, which was free for all.

In the face of global loss and suffering, we and our partners were committed to bringing a little light and hope to any who needed it, through the exquisite power of music. In 2020, ALIVEmusica began as an exciting new collaboration of leading chamber music presenters in New York’s Hudson Valley. We presented live performances in a superb concert hall, and streamed them directly to you, our esteemed patrons, and to audiences beyond. Following each livestream, we offered an online Zoom reception where patrons could speak directly to the performers and socialize with one another.

“We once again enjoyed this week’s ALIVEmusica performance, by Bax and Chung. Their fourhand piano was exquisite, intricate and soul satisfying. Please keep the music coming and thanks for the collaborative effort!”

ALIVEmusica successfully ran for two seasons, with concerts available to stream on YouTube and on each co-presenter’s website. During a time when musicians were unemployed and we all yearned for human connection, these concerts became a beacon of hope for performers and audiences alike.

“BRAVO! You’ve taken my breath away.”

While ALIVEmusica was originally designed to serve the Hudson Valley community, the series reached people across the United States and around the world, with viewers tuning in from Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Romania, South Korea, and Switzerland.
